Tak Nak Pedas

“And not spicy please.......”

"Yes Boss....not spicy" he says whiles walking away smiling...
yeah, well... his intentions were good, but man, spicy it was.....

i've now been exposed to a couple of different cuisines here in Malaysia and i love it... but yeah there is the hotness factor....

as Wikipedia describes it:

"Malaysian cuisine is influenced by various cultures from all around the world. Malaysia's population is made up mainly of 3 main ethnics - Malays, Chinese and Indians, with a number of other ethnic groups living together mostly in harmony. As a result of historical migrations and Malaysia's geographical advantage, Malaysia's culinary style is a mixture of Malays, Chinese, Indians, Thais and Arabian cuisines - to name a few. This resulted in a symphony of flavors, making Malaysian cuisines highly exotic albeit a touch underrated as compared to some of its neighbouring counterparts." For more

in my words..... quite yummy...

but if only i had grown up with more resistance to spicyness/hottness levels in food, but no, i'm from Holland, the land of bland flavoured "winter kost" ...bland might be underselling it, but i can say that yes we might have had flavours when growing up, but nah, spicy it wasn't....

In any case, in the last 6months i've been exposed to many different levels of spiciness.... and have learned to order my food with the addition of “tak nak Pedas”(do not want Spicy)..having the tip of my tongue burn, the sides of my tongue harassed,  the back of my throat punished or even just my lips scolded like mad... different spices, different ways of pain... but the things is, its not always that bad, yeah, there's times where i just really cant take it, but hey, the FLAVOURS.... they are sooooo worth it.... well most of the time anyway... :-)

im loving the experiences seeing, smelling, tasting the food, flavours,smells... sometimes “shitscared” of what to order, but getting more and more comfortable, either by ordering myself, or letting friends order for me and surprise me..  and im getting more tolerant to the spices... plus this might slightly work aswell

Ive had some nice surprises meals wise, from genuinely nice restaurants to tasty street food… for breakfast, to lunch to dinner to 3am food binges… to name a few..
I have along the way a couple of people who do a lot of food blogging, and they suggested it might not be a bad thing to note down some of my experiences, and maybe I will, eventually, but for now…
Have a look at their sites for some proper insights.

and for as far as my blog is concerned,  just look at some of the pix I took of the yummy stuff I tried so far…(ranging from aubergine, to Ramly Burgers, to Frog Legs, to Nasi Goreng, to "Bananna Leaf" to different styles of Roti to Soups to... well..)
You never know, i might just treat you a bit more on what im trying, tasting, regretting, loving etc.... ...
